LENNIE PETERSON
Lennie Peterson's award-winning artwork has been featured in books and magazines and has been exhibited in art galleries throughout the United States and abroad.
"The Big Picture," Lennie's internationally syndicated daily comic strip (distributed by Universal Press Syndicate) appeared in more than 100 newspapers and was published as a book collection by Andrews/McMeel Publishing. In addition, he has illustrated nearly a dozen humor books.
"I am a person who just plain loves to draw," Peterson says. "I don't have a whole lot of concern for what the art world often tries to inflict on an artist by pigeonholing a style like graphic work as opposed to Fine Art. I am just as comfortable and happy creating a cartoon or CD cover as I am a major Fine Art piece for a gallery show."
"My drawing serves as a creative outlet for me, whatever the style. With this diversity, I enjoy the functions it serves, whether in cartooning or Fine Art, to bring an emotional response from the viewer. Drawing has no boundaries for me. Whatever the reason, the act of drawing itself is reason enough."
Lennie Peterson has devoted his life to visual art, music, and arts education. He has traveled the world as a visual artist, performer, conductor, arranger, producer, educator, and recording artist. Lennie's artwork has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and venues throughout the United States, including the Ceres Gallery in New York City; the Angel Orensanz Foundation Center for the Arts in Manhattan, The Williamsburg Art and Historical Center, and the Littlefield Gallery in Brooklyn, New York. Exhibits for 2010 will include a solo show at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA.
In addition to his love of visual art, Lennie is a professional musician, participating in a wide range of musical genres including jazz, rock, Latin, and classical. He was a professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts and a faculty member at the South Shore Conservatory in Hingham, Massachusetts.
Lennie currently serves as a creative consultant, composer, and music director for film and audio recording. As a trombonist, he tours with "La Pasion Segun San Marcos," the renowned orchestral work of contemporary composer and Grammy nominee Osvaldo Golijov.
Lennie is also trombonist with the popular New England based rock band "Clutch Grabwell". The band's third CD will be released in the Spring of 2010. He is also former trombonist with the critically acclaimed street-funk band "The Revolutionary Snake Ensemble" and is featured on both of the band's current CD releases.
Lennie Peterson's current project, "Hacked", is a 90's alternative band just now hitting the Boston music scene. He leads this band of high energy, horn driven rock featuring music of the 90's grunge era with his horn arrangements added.
Lennie donates a percentage of profits from his creative endeavors to various arts foundations and scholarship programs that encourage young people to pursue the arts in all forms. He is also an avid supporter of the organizations Why Me, Inc. (www.whyme.org) devoted to helping children with cancer, and the International Fund for Animal Welfare (www.ifaw.org).
Lennie was born and raised in Central Massachusetts. His father is a musician and his mother was an artist. He currently resides in a coastal community south of Boston, Massachusetts, spending whatever spare time he might have camping, hiking, and jumping out of airplanes (with a parachute).
